Question by Jessica B: Would it be possible to substitute power yoga for weight training?
I’ve been getting back to the gym to lose weight and get healthy. I have found I really enjoy yoga, would it be possible to do 3 one hour very intense power yoga classes a week instead of weight training? Or there is no substituting?

You need loose-fitting clothing and a quiet place to do it, along with a TV+DVD player. Mats and blocks are recommended, but not necessary.

There may be some basic moves made by amateurs on YouTube, but to do it properly, consider borrowing a DVD from your local library. Proper technique is essential in yoga, and it’s not something that you can just dive right into without care or forethought, or rely on a bunch of amateurs who may be posting videos in the wrong order or may even have poor technique without realizing it.

Question by Satia: Qigong books/videos/websites/etc…?
I would like some recommendations on books, videos, websites, whatever for information and virtual training in qigong. I have experience with energy work in another modality and am interested in exploring qigong at this time.

Thanks!

I purchased the “Wild Goose” video on Qigong, but they were expensive and didn’t have enough material on them. So, I’d try something else.
I used to have this book, http://www.amazon.com/ChI-Power-Within-Exercises-Relaxation/dp/0804830991/ref=sr_1_34/002-9405196-1159217?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1183302092&sr=8-34 , which was pretty good. I want to get this one though, I read through it in Barnes and Noble, and it seemed cool.

Question by Rose Arizona: How do I keep my tailbone from hurting during certain yoga poses?
I just started yoga, but whenever I try to roll up or down, or anything involving my bum on the ground, my tailbone digs into the ground and is very painful. Am I missing something?? I am definitely not bony…. I’m a good size 12.

Are you using a mat? That happened to me, on hard and even some carpeted floors! If you buy a yoga mat you should be fine!
