Standing is one of the important and beneficial yoga poses. This pose is helpful in aligning your body and your feet. It is also very useful in improving and maintaining a good posture. It is an advantage because if you have a bad posture, your backbones can be stretched and straightened without noticing it. Standing poses helps in giving strength to your legs and at the same time increase elasticity in your legs and hips because they are all connected to each other.

How could I teach my college class about Yoga using the Wii Fit?

Question by amowitz: How could I teach my college class about Yoga using the Wii Fit?
I’m in a class in which we have to use a video game to teach something to a class. Since I like the wii fit my teacher said showing the class how to do yoga and it’s benefits would be good. Since I’m not an education major and know nothing about developing a curriculum or yoga (I’ll be learning that), I need some help. I have to do an hour long teaching session. Please Help!

This sounds like a fun project! Wish I could do it!

You could start with the advantages of using the Wii – that it can be used in home and in private. Some people are self-conscious about going to a class until they understand the poses. The Wii will allow them to learn the terminology and correct positions in a relaxed non-threatening environment. Basically that the Wii is a neat tool for the beginner learning yoga.

Then move on to the basic positions that ANYONE can do. Some are mountain pose, cat, down dog, staff pose, and triangle. You could spend about 5 minutes on each pose explaining the proper position. Explain the health benefits of each pose. For example, down dog is great for the hamstrings and strengthens the arms as well as helping the blood circulate to the head. Corpse pose is a relaxation pose.

You could also do a 5-10 min presentation on the history of yoga. The practice is thousands of years old and each pose or combination of poses help a particular system or body part – it is a healing practice.

Good luck!
