How To Clean Your Yoga Mat

Posted by admin On April - 8 - 20105 COMMENTS

Like anything that’s carted around, plopped on the floor and walked on, your yoga mat gets dirty and unsanitary. So you’ll need a plan to keep it clean and free of germs and odor. Here’s how to clean a yoga mat and keep it looking fresh.

1. I think to mix one part water to three parts white vinegar. Or add a few drops of mild liquid detergent to a cup or two of water in a spray bottle. And you can mix a cup of warm water with several drops of mild detergent to create a dilute, soapy mixture. Use a sponge to gently massage the soiled areas with your homemade solution.

2.For a deep cleaning, submerge your yoga mat in the bathtub with a mild detergent. Use very little soap, less really is more here, and scrub with a kitchen sponge. Rinse well with clean water.

3. Do not using Washing machine. The yoga mat may loose its shape. Instead, submerge your mat in a solution of warm water and mild detergent. Thoroughly hand wash the mat and rinse in clean water. After lay the mat on a dry towel and roll the mat and towel together.

4. Remember clean your mat lightly after every time for using. To keep your mat looking and smelling fresh, spray it lightly with a mat cleaning spray. To make your own all-natural mat cleaning spray, add three drops of tea tree oil, two drops of peppermint oil, and two drops of lavender oil to distilled water.

5. Place mat in bath tub with hot soapy water Laundry powder will work well and let it soak for 30 minutes or so. You can use a soft brush to scrub any stains. If you want to disinfect use a little bleach directly into the water and mix well before soaking the mat. This will kill any smell and germs, but just a little bleach as too much could deteriorate your mat. Rinse off well and then let it hang dry off a clothes line preferably in the shade.
