How do you choose a yoga mat?

(choose yoga mat) There are a various kinds of yoga mats of different materials and prices at present. People who are fond of yoga feel confused to purchase which kind of yoga mat while facing such a great number of options. Here is some professional suggestion of selecting a yoga mat from some famous coaches.

Here are also 5 tips offered by the coaches for you to select an appropriate mat for yourself:

1. Press and hold the mat with your thumb and index finger to try its pressure resistance. The more elasticity of the mat, the better it will protect you from accidental hurt while doing yoga.

2. Bring an eraser with you and try to apply it on the mat. If the mat is easily broker after erasing, you’d better not to buy it. It may crack if you stand on it to do some yoga gestures.

3. Touch the surface of the mat with your palm. The good one always makes people have a dry feeling while touching it. You will undoubtedly slip on the mat if it feels wet and slippery.

4. It is better for yoga beginners to purchase mats of 6 millimeters in thickness. People of more yoga experience can buy mats of 3.5 millimeters to 5 millimeters.

Be aware that most inexpensive mats are made from materials that are not very friendly to the environment, such as PVC.  You’ll find that after using this type of mat there’ll be a “chemical smell.” I wouldn’t buy one of these mats and neither should you.

The best type of mat is made from rubber because they will be the stickiest and your feet won’t slip when getting into poses that test your balance.  However, they can give off a slight odor the first day or two of use but after that the smell should go away. If you have allergies to latex, however, you also may want to stay away from a rubber mat, but getting one made from natural materials can be another option. If you have knee problems or other injuries in which you need a little more support against a hard studio floor.

Natural Fitness Powerhouse Mat Review

Posted by admin On July - 5 - 20101 COMMENT

The Powerhouse Mat from Natural Fitness is designed for fitness floor exercises, Pilates, stretching, and restorative yoga. Unlike typical foam exercise mats, this Powerhouse Mat is made from environmentally-friendly foam material which does not contain PVC, halogen, or phthalates, making it safer for both the user and the environment. The mat measures 23 by 72 inches and 3/8-inches thick.
I bought this mat from another location, and I was excited when I received it. Natural Fitness is a great company with a message that I really identify with. The mat was a great color and the thickness was wonderful, especially because of how bony I am around the hips and knees.

However, I was EXTREMELY disappointed in it when it was put into practice. I brought it to my yoga class, and was horrified when my (perfectly manicured, thank you very much) toe punctured the mat! On top of that, it left lasting indentations from where I shifted my weight or changed position. The mat was also too light for the thickness it has — thus, when changing position, the mat changes with you. Also, the material is very sticky and when performing with the mat in a class, it is best done in pants so your legs do not stick.

I immediately took it back to the store for a refund. I purchased the Divine yoga mat from Natural Fitness instead, and have no complaints. This mat may be fine for someone doing ab work… On a carpet… In their own home. That’s about it.
